Mets Acquire Top Prospects Jefferson Rojas and Sammy Stafura at Trade Deadline

The New York Mets made significant moves at the trade deadline by acquiring infielders Jefferson Rojas and Sammy Stafura. Both players joined the team on Monday, just hours before the 6 p.m. deadline.

Rojas, ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the Cubs organization, was obtained in a trade that sent Clay Holmes and Tyrone Taylor to Chicago. He has played 91 games in Double-A this season, achieving an .800 OPS with 15 home runs and 17 stolen bases, making him the top prospect in the Mets' system. Meanwhile, Stafura, the No. 9 prospect from the Pirates, was acquired in exchange for Luke Weaver. The 21-year-old has a .960 OPS and 20 home runs over 60 games across two Class-A levels.

Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns highlighted Rojas's well-rounded offensive skills and noted Stafura's exceptional defensive abilities and speed on the bases. Stearns emphasized the importance of finding players with power and defensive skills, which are rare in the league.
