Mets Announce Coaching Changes for 2027 Season
The New York Mets have confirmed that Jeff Albert, the director of hitting, and Danny Barnes, the quality assurance coach, will not be part of the coaching staff for the 2027 season. This decision was reported by Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
Albert has been with the Mets since 2022, serving as the director of hitting for four years and overseeing the team's offensive strategies. The Mets' offense struggled in 2026, ranking 20th in scoring and performing poorly in key batting statistics. Although the team showed improvement later in the season, the overall performance was disappointing given the talent available.
The Mets have not yet decided whether to hire a direct replacement for Albert or to appoint another assistant to support the current hitting coach, Troy Snitker. Despite the managerial change with Andy Green taking over, the Mets aim to maintain continuity within the coaching staff.
