Mets Call Up Jefry Yan for MLB Debut

The New York Mets are set to promote left-handed reliever Jefry Yan for his Major League Baseball debut before their game against the Guardians on Tuesday. This decision comes as the team needs to fill several roster spots after trading away five players, including relievers Luke Weaver, Huascar Brazoban, and Brooks Raley.

Yan, who signed with the Mets on a minor league deal, has shown impressive performance with a 3.24 ERA over 35 appearances in Double-A and Triple-A. He has a notable strikeout rate of 43.5% and a swinging-strike rate of 18.6%, indicating his potential effectiveness in the majors. Yan's pitching repertoire includes a sinker, slider, four-seamer, and changeup, with both fastballs reaching the upper-90s.

Originally signed by the Angels in 2014, Yan's journey to the big leagues has included a Tommy John surgery and stints in various leagues, including a recent period in Japan. His ability to maintain high strikeout rates, despite a significant walk rate, will be tested as he transitions to the major leagues.
