Mets Consider John Mallee for Hitting Coach Position
The New York Mets are in search of a new hitting coach and are considering John Mallee, currently with the Chicago Cubs, as a candidate. This follows reports that Kevin Long will also be interviewed for the position.
In the 2026 season, the Mets had Troy Snitker as their hitting coach, with Rafael Fernandez as the assistant hitting coach and Jeff Albert serving as the director of hitting. While Snitker and Fernandez are expected to return next year, Albert's future with the team is uncertain. The Mets are deliberating whether to hire a new director of hitting or to add another assistant coach under Snitker.
Mallee has extensive coaching experience, having worked with several major league teams, including the Cubs, where he served as hitting coach from 2015 to 2017 and later returned as assistant hitting coach in 2024. His recent work has been noted for helping Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong significantly improve his performance. The Mets are interested in Mallee's coaching history and its potential impact on their roster.
