Mets Designate Bryce Conley for Assignment Amid Roster Changes

The New York Mets have announced several roster changes following their trade deadline activities, including the designation of right-hander Bryce Conley for assignment. This decision comes after Conley was added to the roster just days earlier but did not make an appearance in a game.

Alongside Conley, the Mets have also addressed the statuses of Joey Gerber, Kevin Herget, and MJ Melendez. Gerber, who was on the minor league injured list, has been released, while Herget and Melendez have been outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse. Conley, now at risk of being a phantom player, has a 5.89 earned run average in the minors this season.

Gerber, with a 3.81 ERA in 28 1/3 big league innings, will enter the open market following his release. Herget made one scoreless appearance before his designation and has a 4.13 ERA in 56 2/3 innings. Melendez, who has struggled defensively and offensively, is unlikely to opt for free agency due to his current salary commitments.
