Mets Part Ways with Infielder Andy Ibáñez

The New York Mets have announced the release of veteran infielder/outfielder Andy Ibáñez, who had been playing for their Triple-A affiliate. Ibáñez was acquired from the Oakland Athletics in late April but struggled to make an impact, leading to his release.

This season, Ibáñez has recorded only two hits in 23 at-bats across both the Athletics and Mets, along with a walk and two sacrifice flies. His performance at the Triple-A level included a batting average of .269 with five home runs in 157 plate appearances.

Ibáñez, 33, previously had a successful stint with the Detroit Tigers, where he excelled against left-handed pitchers. Despite his recent struggles, he has a solid career batting average against lefties and experience at multiple infield positions. As teams look for depth following the trade deadline, Ibáñez is expected to attract interest from clubs needing additional support.
