Mets Place Outfielder Luis Robert Jr. on Waivers

The New York Mets have placed outfielder Luis Robert Jr. on outright waivers, making him available to other teams. This decision allows interested clubs to claim him and assume the remainder of his salary for the 2026 season.

Robert, 29, has over $5 million guaranteed on his contract this year. Teams have a 48-hour window to claim him, and if successful, he would be eligible to participate in the post-season. This move follows the Cincinnati Reds' recent waivers of veterans Eugenio Suárez and TJ Friedl.

Robert joined the Mets from the Chicago White Sox in an off-season trade but has faced challenges with injuries and performance, posting a .229 batting average with 10 home runs over 56 games. However, he has recently improved, hitting six home runs and achieving a 1.015 OPS in his last 17 games. He has a $20-million option for 2027 and was previously recognized as an all-star in 2023.
