Mets Promote Jefry Yan, Known for His Unique Strikeout Celebration
The New York Mets have announced the promotion of reliever Jefry Yan from Triple-A Syracuse, filling a gap in their bullpen after trading away several veteran players. Yan, 29, is celebrated for his distinctive post-strikeout celebrations, which include leaping into the air and landing in a split.
In the current season, Yan has demonstrated impressive performance with a 43.5% strikeout rate, having pitched 33.1 innings with 63 strikeouts and a .179 batting average against him. His statistics also include a notable 24.30 strikeouts per nine innings in Triple-A.
Yan's journey to the major leagues has been unconventional, starting with the Angels in 2014 and including a stint in Japan. He has faced challenges, including Tommy John Surgery, but has shown resilience, now splitting his time between Double-A and Triple-A before joining the Mets.
