Mets Sign Chris Devenski to Minor League Contract

The New York Mets have signed right-handed pitcher Chris Devenski to a minor league contract, as reported by MLB.com. Devenski recently elected free agency after being outrighted by the Pittsburgh Pirates and has been assigned to Triple-A Syracuse.

At 35 years old, Devenski had a successful start to his career with the Houston Astros, posting a 2.38 earned run average over 189 innings by the end of the 2017 season. However, his performance declined in subsequent years, and he faced significant health challenges, including Tommy John surgery, which sidelined him for much of the 2020 to 2022 seasons.

In recent years, Devenski has played for multiple teams, including the Diamondbacks, Phillies, Angels, Rays, and Pirates, accumulating a 5.35 ERA in 102 2/3 innings since 2022. The Mets, having traded away several experienced pitchers at the trade deadline, are currently relying on a bullpen with limited big league experience. Devenski may be called up if the team requires additional pitching support as the season progresses.
