Mets to Compensate Pirates Over $8 Million in Weaver Trade

The New York Mets are set to pay over $8.1 million to the Pittsburgh Pirates following the trade that transferred pitcher Luke Weaver to Pittsburgh for minor league infielder Sammy Stafura. This payment covers a significant portion of Weaver's remaining contract, which totals nearly $13.4 million.

Pittsburgh will effectively pay only $229,412 for Weaver this year, which is a prorated share of the minimum salary. The Mets will make four payments of $530,882 on specified dates in August and September. Additionally, New York will pay the Pirates $6 million next year to offset most of Weaver's $11 million salary for 2027.

In total, the Mets will provide the Pirates with $8,123,529 as part of this transaction. Weaver's contract, valued at $22 million over two years, had $13,352,941 remaining at the time of the trade.
