Mets Trade Freddy Peralta to Rays for Prospects

The New York Mets have traded pitcher Freddy Peralta to the Tampa Bay Rays, as reported by ESPN's Jeff Passan and Will Sammon of The Athletic on Sunday.

In exchange for Peralta, the Mets will receive three prospects: outfielder Aidan Smith, right-handed pitcher Gary Gill Hill, and second baseman Emilien Pitre. Peralta, a two-time all-star, had been struggling with a 4.99 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 22 starts this season, a stark contrast to his previous performance that earned him a fifth-place finish in the National League Cy Young voting in 2025.

Peralta, who began the season as the Mets' opening-day starter, previously spent eight seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he had a notable 2.81 ERA during his all-star season in 2021. He will now join a Rays rotation that includes Shane McClanahan, Drew Rasmussen, and Nick Martinez.

Aidan Smith, 22, was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 2022 and is currently batting .209 with 10 home runs across three minor-league levels. Gary Gill Hill, 21, has a 4.49 ERA in 20 starts this season, while Emilien Pitre, 23, is batting .308 in 88 games this season.
