Mexico Supports FIFA President Gianni Infantino Amid Controversy

The Mexican Football Federation has publicly expressed its support for FIFA president Gianni Infantino, diverging from the stance of its regional governing body, Concacaf. This backing comes amid calls for Infantino to resign after he canceled plans to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors.

Concacaf had previously demanded a thorough evaluation of Infantino's presidency, criticizing his unilateral decisions. In contrast, Mexico, a co-host of the 2026 World Cup, reaffirmed its confidence in Infantino's leadership, emphasizing the importance of institutional development in football.

While Concacaf and UEFA have voiced their discontent, the South American governing body, Conmebol, has also supported Infantino, stating that any removal should involve a vote from all FIFA members. Infantino's leadership continues to face scrutiny, particularly from European football associations, despite backing from other confederations.
