Miami Dolphins Adjust Salary Cap, Impacting Roster Decisions
The Miami Dolphins have recently altered their salary cap dynamics, which could negatively impact some veteran players on the roster bubble. This change follows the contract extension of Jordyn Brooks, which has provided the team with additional financial flexibility.
By restructuring Brooks' deal to include a significant signing bonus, the Dolphins have gained over $4 million in salary cap space for the 2026 season, bringing their total to more than $16 million. This amount positions them closer to the top tier of teams in terms of cap space, although they still need to reserve funds for potential injuries and the practice squad.
As a result of this newfound flexibility, the Dolphins may consider cutting minimum salary veterans with guaranteed contracts, such as wide receivers Tutu Atwell and Jalen Tolbert, both of whom have guaranteed salaries of $1.075 million. The team now has the ability to make roster decisions without being overly constrained by their previous cap situation, allowing them to focus on assembling the strongest possible roster.
