Miami Dolphins Restructure Contracts for $2.5 Million in Cap Space
The Miami Dolphins have taken steps to manage their salary cap by restructuring player contracts, generating approximately $2.5 million in additional space for the 2026 season. This move comes as the team navigates the financial implications of a significant roster overhaul.
The largest adjustment involved right tackle Austin Jackson, who had $1.51 million of his per-game roster bonus converted into a signing bonus, resulting in a current-year charge reduction of about $1.2 million. Tight end Greg Dulcich and defensive lineman Zach Sieler also had portions of their bonuses restructured, saving the team $272,000 and $408,000, respectively. Additionally, cornerback JuJu Brents had $792,000 of his base salary converted, creating $634,000 in cap space.
These changes come as the Dolphins face a substantial dead-cap bill exceeding $180 million due to previous roster changes. Currently, the team is approximately $8.8 million under the cap, which could facilitate midseason acquisitions as injuries occur. While the restructuring does not alter the team's rebuilding status, it provides some financial flexibility as they continue to adjust their roster.
