Sophomore wide receiver Malachi Toney recorded 12 receptions for 234 yards and three touchdowns, breaking Miami's single-game receiving yards record. Meanwhile, quarterback Darian Mensah, a transfer from Duke, completed 27 of 30 passes for 401 yards and five touchdowns, marking the best debut for a Miami quarterback.

Mensah, who had a standout season at Duke, is now leading Miami's offense, with Toney as a key target. The Hurricanes, coming off a College Football Playoff appearance, are now 1-0 overall and in conference play, preparing to host Florida A&M in their home opener on September 12.
