Michael Lorenzen Finds His Rhythm with the Toronto Blue Jays
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Michael Lorenzen has been on a quest to regain his pitching form over the past five years. His struggles intensified while playing for the Colorado Rockies this season, leading to his designation for assignment on August 17 and subsequent release two days later.
After returning home to Southern California, Lorenzen was initially content with stepping away from baseball, spending time with his family while continuing to throw in case an opportunity arose. Shortly after, the Toronto Blue Jays reached out following an injury to Shane Bieber, offering him a chance to contribute. He signed with the team on August 27 and has since made three appearances, with a potential start against the Athletics on Wednesday.
Pitching coach Pete Walker noted that Lorenzen's recent adjustments have led to improved performance, including a fastball averaging 95.8 mph in a recent outing. Lorenzen expressed that he has finally found his natural throwing motion after years of struggle, which he believes will enhance his effectiveness on the mound. The Blue Jays are looking for contributions from him as they navigate a critical stretch of the season.
