Michael Penix Inactive for Falcons' Season Opener
The Atlanta Falcons have announced that Michael Penix will not be active for their Week 1 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tua Tagovailoa is set to start, while Cooper Rush will serve as the backup quarterback.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed during a press conference that Penix, who was cleared for full football activities in late August, will not play in the season opener. Although he did not participate in preseason games, Stefanski expressed satisfaction with Penix's recovery from a torn ACL.
Stefanski did not provide a timeline for when Penix might be ready for game action or how the quarterback depth chart will be structured moving forward, indicating that updates regarding the position will be frequent in the coming weeks.
