Michael Penix Jr. Provides Update on Injury Recovery
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is still in recovery from surgery to repair a partially torn ACL and has not yet been cleared for 11-on-11 team sessions. Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Tua Tagovailoa will start in the preseason opener against the Denver Broncos this Friday.
Penix indicated that he is making progress and feels optimistic about his recovery, stating he can perform most activities except taking hits. He is hopeful for clearance to compete for the starting quarterback position in Week 1.
Despite his positive outlook, concerns remain about Penix's injury history, having suffered two ACL tears prior to being drafted. He acknowledged the mental challenges of trusting his recovery but received reassurance from his doctor regarding the strength of his repaired ACL.
