Michael Penix Jr. Seeks Medical Clearance Ahead of Quarterback Competition
Michael Penix Jr. is scheduled to meet with his doctor on Thursday in hopes of receiving medical clearance to participate in Atlanta's quarterback competition.
Penix has been recovering from a torn ACL sustained last season and has been involved in individual and 7-on-7 drills during training camp, but has yet to join 11-on-11 practices. He previously expressed optimism about being cleared within four weeks, with about a week remaining until that timeframe.
In Penix's absence from 11-on-11 drills, Tua Tagovailoa has been taking first-team reps. However, Tagovailoa's performance has faced scrutiny, particularly after a lackluster showing in the preseason opener and challenges during joint practices with the Colts. Coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Tagovailoa is not expected to play in the upcoming preseason game against Indianapolis.
