Michael Soroka Declines Mutual Option with Diamondbacks
Michael Soroka has declined his end of a $10 million mutual option with the Arizona Diamondbacks, opting instead for free agency. He will receive a $1 million buyout as part of this decision.
Soroka's performance this season positioned him well financially. After joining the Diamondbacks on a $7.5 million contract last offseason, he earned an additional $1.35 million in performance bonuses by starting 20 games. He maintained a 3.41 earned run average over 116 innings and led the team's starters with a 24.1% strikeout rate.
Despite some injury setbacks in the second half of the season, Soroka's overall production was solid, marking his highest workload since 2019. While he may not command a large contract due to concerns about his innings, he is likely to secure a multi-year deal. The Diamondbacks have expressed some interest in re-signing him, but budget constraints may lead them to explore other options in the trade market.
