Michigan Replaces QB Bryce Underwood with Tommy Carr Against Penn State
Michigan's head coach Kyle Whittingham decided to bench quarterback Bryce Underwood during the second half of Saturday's game against Penn State after a disappointing first half.
Underwood, a five-star sophomore, struggled with execution, throwing two interceptions and failing to score in the first two quarters. Freshman Tommy Carr replaced him and quickly led the team to its first points with a 43-yard touchdown run by Bryson Kuzdzal.
Earlier in the week, offensive coordinator Jason Beck acknowledged the pressure on Underwood, emphasizing the need for improvement while noting his dedication and hard work. Carr, who is the grandson of former Wolverines coach Lloyd Carr, had previously played in only one game this season.
