Middlesex Becomes First County Championship Team to Forfeit Innings in Two Years

On day four, Derbyshire was bowled out for 131, prompting Middlesex to forfeit their innings to expedite the game. Derbyshire then scored 111-3 in their second innings before the match concluded, with only 86.1 overs played over four days.

This marks the first forfeiture of an innings in the County Championship since September 2024, when both Gloucestershire and Glamorgan forfeited in their match. Historically, this is only the third instance where one team batted twice without the other batting at all, with previous occurrences in 1993 and 1988. Overall, there have been 255 forfeited innings in the County Championship, with a notable decline in recent years.
