Miguel Vargas Reflects on Career Turnaround with White Sox
Miguel Vargas, the third baseman for the Chicago White Sox, has played a crucial role in the team's resurgence this season. Alongside newcomer Munetaka Murakami, Vargas has helped propel the offense to a fifth-place ranking in scoring during the regular season, setting personal bests in nearly every offensive category.
Vargas revealed that he contemplated leaving baseball after the 2024 season, a sentiment he discussed in a recent interview. After being traded from the Dodgers to the White Sox at the 2024 deadline, he struggled significantly, finishing that year with a low batting average. However, the 2025 season marked a turning point, as he achieved a .717 OPS while playing regularly.
This year, Vargas has excelled, hitting 33 home runs and driving in 106 runs, ranking 16th among qualified hitters with a 134 wRC+. In the playoffs, he has maintained a strong performance, boasting a .464 on-base percentage through six games, highlighted by his first postseason home run in Game 4 of the ALDS.
