Mike Cowan Reflects on Early Days with Tiger Woods
Mike ‘Fluff’ Cowan discussed his experience working with Tiger Woods during the initial phase of his professional golf career. He noted that it was not challenging to work for Woods, although he had to adjust his yardage books to accommodate Woods' unique style.
Woods made a significant impact in his first year, winning on the PGA Tour shortly after turning professional and claiming a major championship the following year. Cowan served as Woods' caddie until early 1999, when he was succeeded by Steve Williams, who later caddied for Woods during 13 major victories.
Cowan recalled a memorable shot from Woods during the Australian Open, where Woods hit a four-iron over a high band of trees, showcasing his remarkable skill. Cowan emphasized the impressive sound of Woods' irons and the ease of their working relationship.
