
Mike Ditka, Chicago Bears Legend and NFL Icon, Passes Away at 86
Mike Ditka, a prominent figure in the NFL and former head coach of the Chicago Bears, has passed away at the age of 86. His family announced the news, although they did not disclose the cause of death.
Ditka, who was the first tight end inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, coached the Bears to their Super Bowl XX victory in 1986. He began his career with the Bears after being selected as the fifth overall pick in the 1961 draft and played for six seasons before joining the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys.
During his playing career, Ditka recorded 427 receptions for 5,812 yards and 43 touchdowns. He later served as an assistant coach with the Cowboys, contributing to their Super Bowl win in 1978, before taking the helm of the Bears in 1982. His leadership led the team to a remarkable 15-1 record in the 1985-86 season and a championship win against the New England Patriots.
