Mike Hesson Interested in Permanent Role as Pakistan Test Coach

Mike Hesson has shown interest in taking on the role of permanent coach for Pakistan's Test cricket team. Earlier this year, he was approached regarding the England coaching position, which he declined due to his commitment to Pakistan.

Hesson, a New Zealander, was appointed as Pakistan's limited-overs coach in May 2025 and stepped in as interim coach for the Test team following the dismissal of Sarfaraz Ahmed after significant losses to England. Despite an eight-wicket defeat in his first match against England at Edgbaston, Hesson noted some positive aspects and emphasized the potential talent within the Pakistani cricket system.

Hesson previously coached New Zealand from 2012 to 2018 and confirmed that he had been contacted about the England role after Brendon McCullum's departure. He reiterated his commitment to Pakistan, highlighting the need for a focused approach to improve the Test side's performance.
