Mike McDaniel Faces Pressure as Chargers Struggle in Early Season
The Los Angeles Chargers are facing a challenging start to their season, entering Week 5 without a victory. This situation has put pressure on second-year coach Jim Harbaugh and first-year offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.
Analyst Kristopher Knox highlighted the Chargers' offensive issues, noting they rank 21st in yards and 29th in scoring. He pointed out that quarterback Justin Herbert's performance has notably declined under McDaniel, with only four touchdowns and six interceptions, resulting in a career-low passer rating of 70.6.
Knox suggested that if Harbaugh opts for a change, passing game coordinator Shane Day could take over, given his familiarity with Herbert and the team's dynamics, despite limited play-calling experience.
