Mike Shirley Resigns as White Sox Scouting Director Amid Harassment Allegations

Mike Shirley resigned from his role as the Chicago White Sox amateur scouting director on Saturday, coinciding with an internal investigation into allegations of verbal harassment. The allegations included inappropriate racial and sexist comments made by Shirley towards coworkers.

Shirley was placed on administrative leave after an anonymous tip regarding his conduct at the Area Code Games in Long Beach, California, last month. The event, which occurs annually in early August, attracts around 200 high school players and is attended by various scouting personnel.

The White Sox's human resources department initiated an investigation shortly after receiving the complaint, interviewing members of the amateur scouting department. This was not the first inquiry into Shirley's behavior, as he had previously been the subject of an investigation in 2022, which did not result in any disciplinary action. Allegations in the latest investigation also included the use of vulgar language regarding women. The White Sox declined to comment on the matter.
