Minnesota Twins Prepare for Active Offseason with New Leadership
The Minnesota Twins are entering the 2026-27 offseason with a fresh outlook following a season that ended with a 77-85 record. Despite being in contention for much of the first half, their performance was largely influenced by a mediocre American League. The team is now poised for a more active offseason compared to the previous year, which followed a significant roster teardown.
Ownership has seen changes, with Tom Pohlad taking over control and a new front office led by Jeremy Zoll. This shift comes after the departure of several key figures, including the president of baseball operations and the assistant GM. The Twins are also looking for a new pitching coach after not renewing the contract of Pete Maki.
Tom Pohlad has expressed intentions to raise the team's payroll, which has been significantly reduced in recent years. While he has not committed to returning to the franchise-record payroll of nearly $155 million from 2023, he emphasized the need for meaningful investment to improve competitiveness. The Twins currently have financial commitments totaling over $60 million for 2027, with potential for increased spending as they aim to reshape their roster.
