Miyu Yamashita Leads CPKC Women's Open with 8-Under 62
Miyu Yamashita of Japan finished the first round of the CPKC Women's Open in Edmonton with a score of 8-under-par 62, giving her a one-stroke lead over compatriot Nasa Hataoka, who ended the day at 7-under.
Both players recorded eight birdies, but Yamashita's performance was slightly better, as she achieved matching scores of 31 on both the front and back nine, needing only 25 putts throughout the round. Kiara Romero followed in third place with a score of 6-under 64, while four other golfers, including two Canadian teenagers, were tied at 5-under.
Yamashita, currently ranked No. 7 in the world, expressed satisfaction with her performance, noting that she had taken a two-week break prior to the tournament. Hataoka highlighted her strong play, despite the challenging conditions with numerous mosquitoes on the course. The event saw 80 of the 156 participants finish at even-par or better, including World No. 1 Nelly Korda, who shot a 3-under 67.
