MLB Approves Sale of San Diego Padres to José E. Feliciano and Kwanza Jones
Major League Baseball owners have unanimously approved the sale of the San Diego Padres to investors José E. Feliciano and Kwanza Jones. This decision was made during a conference call on Monday, concluding a process that began in April when the couple agreed to purchase the team from the Seidler family for a record valuation of $3.9 billion.
The couple will acquire more than 40 percent of the franchise, with additional investors participating at smaller percentages. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred welcomed Feliciano and Jones, highlighting their understanding of the Padres' significance in San Diego and their commitment to the team’s future.
The sale is expected to close in the coming days, with a press conference scheduled for next Monday to introduce the new owners. Feliciano and Jones expressed their ambition to bring a World Series championship to San Diego and to actively engage in the team's operations. The Padres, who have not yet won a World Series, are currently competing for a postseason berth.
