MLB Involvement Leads to Umpire's Apology to Cardinals' Rincon
Umpire Doug Eddings issued an apology to St. Louis Cardinals reliever Hancel Rincon following an incident during a game against the Colorado Rockies. Eddings had stopped the game to instruct Rincon to adjust his hat, despite there being no MLB rule regarding hat positioning.
This action led to Cardinals manager Oli Marmol being ejected from the game due to the ensuing emotions. Reports indicate that the MLB intervened, informing Eddings that his request was excessive and inappropriate.
In response to the situation, Cardinals players showed solidarity by wearing their caps tilted during the next game. Eddings, who has been an umpire for 28 years, acknowledged the mistake and apologized to Rincon.
