MLB Owners Set to Approve Padres Sale Next Monday
The ownership sale of the San Diego Padres is scheduled for a vote by Major League Baseball's 29 other owners next Monday. Reports indicate that the agreement is likely to be approved, allowing José E. Feliciano and Kwanza Jones to gain majority control of the team.
To finalize the sale, at least 22 owners must approve the deal, which is anticipated to pass without issue. Feliciano is set to become the control person for the franchise, which is valued at a record $3.9 billion. Initial reports suggested Feliciano would acquire a 30-40% stake, but recent updates indicate it may exceed 40%, potentially nearing 45%.
Some members of the Seidler family and current minority investors will retain their stakes in the team. The ownership transition coincides with a positive shift in the Padres' performance, as the team recently defeated the Brewers 11-2, marking their fourth consecutive win and improving their record to 64-57, placing them in contention for the National League Wild Card spots.
