MLS Announces 2027 Sprint Season Schedule
The Major League Soccer (MLS) has released the schedule for its 2027 sprint season, which will serve as a transition to a European-style calendar. The season is set to begin on February 19, with Inter Miami facing FC Cincinnati, and will conclude on May 8 with a Hudson River Derby between New York City FC and New York Red Bulls.
Each team will compete in 14 regular-season matches, featuring both home and away games. The playoffs will include the top eight teams from each conference, adopting a single-elimination format. This change aims to streamline the playoff process, moving away from the previous best-of-three series.
The shift to a European calendar is expected to align MLS with global transfer markets and alleviate midseason player sales. The 2027-28 MLS Season will commence in July 2027, culminating in the MLS Cup playoffs by May 2028.
