Mokaev Criticizes UFC for Basharat Release Narrative
Muhammad Mokaev has publicly criticized the UFC for allegedly fabricating a harmful narrative surrounding the release of Farid Basharat from the promotion. Basharat, who achieved a perfect 16-0 record after a victory over John Garza at UFC 329, was not re-signed despite his impressive 7-0 performance in the octagon.
UFC president Dana White indicated that reasons beyond Basharat's fight performance contributed to the decision, while Basharat himself suggested that officials were dissatisfied with his wrestling-heavy style and lack of finishes. Mokaev, who was also released by the UFC in 2024 without a loss, defended Basharat on social media and questioned the organization's approach to fighter management.
Mokaev specifically condemned the practice of publicly undermining a fighter's character, asserting that such narratives can harm their reputations and future opportunities. His own departure from the UFC followed a decision win over Manel Kape, which was marred by a physical altercation during fight week. Since leaving, Mokaev has maintained an undefeated streak, finishing three opponents and ranking seventh in the MMA Fighting flyweight standings.
