Montez Sweat's Suspension Sparks Trade Speculation for Bears
The Chicago Bears are exploring the possibility of trading for another pass rusher after defensive end Montez Sweat was suspended for two games due to a violation of the NFL's Performance-Enhancing Substances Policy. This suspension leaves a gap in the Bears' defense, as Sweat has played a significant role, participating in 69 percent of defensive snaps this season.
With Sweat's absence, the Bears face challenges in their defensive lineup, particularly if Dayo Odeyingbo, who is dealing with a quad injury, is unable to play. The current depth at defensive end includes Austin Booker, Shemar Turner, Daniel Hardy, James Lynch, and Jamree Kromah, but the team is in urgent need of an impactful edge rusher.
Additionally, Sweat's suspension allows the Bears to save $2.3 million in cap space, making it financially feasible to acquire another player, such as Khalil Mack. This trade could be timely, especially if the Los Angeles Chargers struggle in their upcoming game, potentially making Mack available. The Bears are positioned to enhance their defense while also planning for future roster changes.
