Morne Morkel Warns India Pacers Ahead of Test Series in Sri Lanka
India's bowling coach Morne Morkel has expressed concerns regarding the challenging playing conditions in Sri Lanka as the team prepares for the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle on August 15. Morkel noted that the combination of heat and humidity could lead to the Kookaburra ball losing its hardness sooner than expected, which poses a challenge for the Indian seamers.
With Jasprit Bumrah sidelined due to a knee injury, Mohammed Siraj becomes the most experienced seamer in the squad, joined by Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, and newly called-up Auqib Nabi. Morkel emphasized the need for the pacers to adapt their strategies as the ball softens after 25 to 30 overs, urging them to maximize the new ball's effectiveness before adjusting their approach.
During a recent practice session, India utilized a three-day warm-up match against the Sri Lanka Cricket XI to prepare their bowling options. Ravindra Jadeja and Gurnoor Brar were among the standout bowlers, each taking three wickets. Morkel highlighted the importance of maintaining intensity and building pressure throughout the Test match, especially given the team's limited recent experience with red-ball cricket.
