Motherwell's Fine for Celtic Penalty Reaction Upheld
Motherwell has been unsuccessful in their effort to lessen a £5,000 fine imposed for their reaction to a penalty awarded to Celtic during a match at Fir Park in May. The fine was upheld by a Scottish FA appeal panel following a social media post that criticized the officiating.
The penalty was given by referee John Beaton after a VAR review determined a handball by Sam Nicholson. Kelechi Iheanacho scored from the penalty spot, sealing a 3-2 victory for Celtic.
Former Motherwell player Elliot Watt, who is now with Samsunspor in Turkey, had his initial four-match suspension reduced to two matches, with an additional two matches suspended until the end of next season. Both Watt and the club faced charges for breaching rules against criticizing match officials.
