MotoGP Considers Rider Transfer Window to Regulate Signings

MotoGP is contemplating the introduction of a rider transfer window, a concept similar to those used in football, as the rider market has seen unprecedented activity this year.

A meeting of the IRTA Management Council took place at Silverstone, where representatives discussed establishing a designated period for teams to sign riders, making any agreements outside this timeframe invalid. This initiative aims to address the early activation of the rider market that overshadowed the championship's sporting aspects.

Reports indicated that significant rider agreements were made early in the season, with around 80% of available spots filled before the summer break. While some stakeholders, like Yamaha, view the transfer window as beneficial, others, such as Ducati, express concerns about its feasibility, highlighting the complexities involved in implementing such a system.
