MotoGP Race in Australia Cancelled Due to Bad Weather
The MotoGP race in Australia, planned for Sunday at Phillip Island, has been cancelled due to severe weather conditions. The decision came after rain and poor visibility made it unsafe to proceed with the event.
Initially, the race was delayed as organizers attempted to reschedule it for later in the day. Although some areas of the track appeared dry as the rain subsided, the lack of visibility ultimately prevented medical helicopters from operating, which is crucial for rider safety. Race director Graham Webb emphasized the importance of having air ambulance access in case of emergencies.
This cancellation marks a significant moment as it would have been the last MotoGP event at the iconic Phillip Island circuit, which has hosted races for 30 years, barring two years affected by the pandemic. The Australian MotoGP will move to a new street circuit in Adelaide starting next season.
