MotoGP Riders Express Concerns Over Sepang Track Conditions
MotoGP riders have raised alarms about the poor condition of the track surface at the Sepang International Circuit as they prepare for the Malaysian Grand Prix this weekend. Many riders reported significant asphalt deterioration, with some experiencing minor injuries from loose pieces of tarmac during practice sessions.
The track was scheduled for resurfacing this year, but the work was delayed for unspecified reasons. Riders noted that the surface had visibly worsened since the pre-season test in February, with images showing disintegration in multiple areas. Honda's Luca Marini described the overall condition as challenging, emphasizing the need for caution due to flying debris.
Fabio Di Giannantonio humorously suggested that riders should wear chest protection due to the rocks being kicked up from the asphalt. While reigning Malaysian GP winner Alex Marquez acknowledged that some sections were borderline unsafe, he noted that the conditions were not worse than last year. Ducati's Marc Marquez agreed that resurfacing is overdue but did not find the current conditions to be dangerous.
