MotoGP Riders Oppose New Fines for Missing Fan Events
MotoGP riders have voiced their discontent regarding a new policy that imposes fines for failing to attend fan events during grand prix weekends. The announcement was made during the Indonesian Grand Prix, where it was revealed that riders could face a €5,000 penalty for not meeting minimum attendance requirements.
The policy mandates that riders participate in events like the Hero Walk, which requires them to spend at least 10 minutes engaging with fans. Notably, some riders were absent from the recent Hero Walk in Mandalika, where temperatures exceeded 30°C, and are expected to incur fines under the new rules. Repeated violations could lead to increased penalties, including grid penalties or points deductions.
Riders, including Fabio Quartararo and Pedro Acosta, have expressed concerns that the championship does not adequately consider their individual circumstances, particularly regarding their physical condition after races. They argue for a more balanced approach that respects the riders' health while still engaging with fans. Some riders have suggested the formation of an association to address these issues collectively.
