Jose Mourinho, the head coach of Real Madrid, voiced his displeasure regarding the video assistant referee (VAR) following his team's unexpected loss to Real Betis. In stoppage time, Real Madrid was awarded a penalty after Vinicius Jr was fouled. Kylian Mbappe's penalty was saved, and controversy arose when Betis defender Marc Bartra, who had one foot inside the penalty area, was involved in the rebound. The VAR, overseen by Javier Iglesias Villanueva, chose not to intervene, leading Mourinho to question the officiating decisions during a press conference.
