MP Calls for Action on Persistent Odor from Closed Kirkby Dump
An MP has urged the government to address the ongoing issues at a waste dump in Kirkby, Merseyside, which remains odorous and dusty even after being officially closed by the Environment Agency.
The site, located on the Simonswood Industrial Estate, has drawn numerous complaints from local residents regarding unpleasant smells, noise, and dust. West Lancashire MP Ashley Dalton raised concerns in the House of Commons, questioning what assurances the government could provide regarding the site's clearance.
Environment Secretary Dame Angela Eagle indicated that the Environment Agency is still investigating the site and it will be considered for clearance along with other illegal waste sites. However, residents like Angela Driscoll expressed skepticism about any imminent action, citing years of campaigning without significant change.
