Munster Honors Anthony Foley on 10th Anniversary of His Death
This Saturday, Munster Rugby will pay tribute to their former captain and head coach, Anthony Foley, marking the tenth anniversary of his death. Foley passed away suddenly in Paris on October 16, 2016, at the age of 42 due to a heart condition.
As Munster prepares to face Racing 92, the team will honor Foley's legacy with special commemorative jackets featuring the club crest and the number eight, representing his position. Munster defense coach Denis Leamy, who played alongside Foley, emphasized the lasting impact Foley had on the team and his influence on players' mindsets.
Foley, known as 'Axel', made significant contributions to Munster and Irish rugby, including captaining the team to the 2006 Heineken Cup victory. His memory continues to resonate within the club, with players like Tadhg Beirne and Peter O'Mahony recalling his enduring legacy and the profound effect his passing had on them. The tribute will also include a performance of 'There Is An Isle', a photo display, and a round of applause in the eighth minute of the match.
