NASCAR Fines Zane Smith $50,000 for Post-Race Collision with Carson Hocevar
NASCAR has imposed a $50,000 fine on Zane Smith, a driver for Front Row Motorsports, for colliding with Carson Hocevar's vehicle after the recent NASCAR Cup Series event at Phoenix Raceway.
The incident occurred as Smith, frustrated by a previous altercation with Hocevar that cost him a potential top ten finish, accelerated towards Hocevar's car at speeds nearing 140mph after the race concluded. Hocevar was traveling approximately 30mph slower at the time of impact.
NASCAR classified the action as a safety violation under its Rule Book and opted for a monetary penalty without affecting Smith's points. The two drivers have a history of conflicts, including a previous incident earlier this year at Chicagoland, which may have influenced NASCAR's decision to penalize Smith this time.
