NASCAR Teams Face Uncertainty with New Package at Daytona

NASCAR teams are gearing up for the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona, set to take place without any practice sessions, leaving drivers and crew chiefs uncertain about car performance. Joe Gibbs Racing's crew chief Adam Stevens expressed concerns about the unpredictability of the race, particularly in Turn 1.

The new package features a reduced rear spoiler and decreased horsepower, aimed at enhancing racing dynamics by minimizing fuel-saving tactics. Drivers like Daniel Suarez acknowledged that all teams are in the same situation, with no prior data to guide them.

Some drivers, including Carson Hocevar, are embracing the challenge, while Denny Hamlin noted the potential for chaotic racing. He believes that the changes could lead to more passing opportunities, contrasting with previous years of the NextGen car. Crew chief Cliff Daniels from Hendrick Motorsports anticipates improved qualifying speeds, which may enhance pack racing. Despite the excitement, Hamlin expressed a desire for at least a brief practice session to better prepare for the unknowns of the race.
