Although conditions had improved later, umpires decided to abandon play at 18:30, despite the weather being the best it had been all day, which prompted booing from some fans.

Hussain expressed disbelief at the decision, noting that the weather had cleared and spectators had waited for play to resume. The abandonment resulted in spectators receiving a 50% refund on their tickets, as only 24.5 overs were played that day. England ended the day at 177-7 in their second innings, leading by 357 runs.
