Nathan Cofnas Allowed to Resume Work Amid Ongoing Plagiarism Investigation

Nathan Cofnas, a U.S. academic, has been allowed to resume certain academic activities at Ghent University while an investigation into his plagiarism allegations against the late Cambridge University professor Jason Arday is ongoing. This decision was announced by the university on Friday.

Arday, who passed away at 41 in London earlier this month, had denied the plagiarism claims but acknowledged making mistakes. Following the allegations, Ghent University suspended Cofnas as a precautionary measure. Cofnas has stated that the investigation also involves potential discrimination.

Under the current conditions, Cofnas can work remotely but is prohibited from engaging in teaching. Ghent University has communicated with the U.S. ambassador to Belgium regarding the situation. Cofnas expressed gratitude for the ambassador's interest in his case, while his previous association with Cambridge's Emmanuel College ended amid concerns raised by students about his blog posts.
