Nathan Murphy Leaves Collingwood to Join Gold Coast Suns
Nathan Murphy, a former defender for Collingwood, has decided to leave the club after two seasons in a development coaching role. His departure comes as he seeks to relocate his young family.
Murphy will be joining the Gold Coast Suns, where he will work alongside his former premiership teammate Scott Pendlebury as a development and assistant coach. His playing career was cut short due to concussion, which prevented him from participating in games after a head injury during the 2023 Grand Final, although his team went on to win the premiership.
After transitioning from player to coach, Murphy focused on developing young backmen, particularly during a challenging 2026 season marked by injuries. Collingwood's footy boss, Charlie Gardiner, expressed gratitude for Murphy's contributions over his nine years with the club, highlighting his positive impact on young players.
